There are many frauds & scams floating around and they always seem to find there way into almost everybody’s email, sometimes you have to ask, What are people thinking, sometimes ? I have received some emails about my bank account having problems and I need to click a link in the email to straighten out the problem. Well first of all I don’t and didn’t have an account with this particular bank { clue # 1} and it looked fake, the fake logo and how it was put together {clue # 2}. I’m sure many of you have received similar emails.
Here’s another one that I’ve received: Dear Sir or Madame I’m having problems in my country or with family or need help to put away some money in a safe place, I have a million, bazillion dollars to share with you and I just need you personal information { bank account #, phone, name, address etc…) in order to send you the money. Are they serious ?! I mean really, are you serious?!
Also the infamous Todd Mayer is apparently back trying to scam mostly Virtual Assistants. I didn’t know that he/she/ they (whatever) was so famous (for scams that is ), till I found out that I was not the only one who has received an email from Todd. This Todd fraud is using a new alias: Ted Grant. It was my first time getting a Todd Mayer email, it seemed legit. This Todd Mayer clown, is probably using a new email address and a new name the old one may not be used anymore. In the email it states that he/she/ they are in London, UK and he/she has a client who needs your services or the services of a V A. After Todd Mayer asked about my services , I told he/she about them then I never heard from him/ her again, which is good, now that I know about alias Todd Mayer.
Don’t be fooled, because alias Todd Mayer/ Ted Grant can fool anyone, not just Virtual Assistants.
It seems as though some Virtual Assistants have been hit by alias: Todd with some bad checks. So to all V A’s be aware of fraudulent emails, check out your clients/ future clients, find out if your clients checks are real before you deposit them into your account. There are check verification machines that you can purchase for small companies & large companies or talk to your bank and ask them if they will verify the check before you deposit it!
Well I’m glad that I didn’t do any business with him/ her. With people like that you just have laugh at them, report the fraud & hit the delete button, but don’t give them any info. I just quickly report the fraud to the email hosting company or other authorities & quickly hit the delete button. Problem solved (well for the moment that is). There are many more scam/ con-artists out there just looking for easy prey.
When are these scam artist going to realize that everyone is not falling for these scams. Probably never, because there have been too many people taken advantage of by these scams. So that’s why they keep doing it. Sometimes crooked people will stop at nothing for money.
Be aware of strange emails, when in doubt don’t, don’t click inside of the email on any of its links that is. Usually doubt means don’t. Doubt can be a life saver. Be careful with your personal info & who you give it to.
